This shaded rear garden in Brockley was designed as a comfortable, welcoming extension of the house — a space for relaxing, entertaining and unwinding.

The design builds on the existing patio, using materials and forms that create a cohesive flow throughout the garden. A corten steel screen acts as a visual focal point while subtly dividing the space, guiding movement and revealing a secluded seating area at the rear. A generous sleeper-built raised bed doubles as informal seating, making the garden versatile for both quiet moments and social gatherings.

Layered, lush planting complements the existing foliage, introducing a variety of textures and forms that enclose the garden and enhance its calm, intimate atmosphere. The result is a cohesive, functional outdoor space that feels both connected to the house and private within its urban context.
