Dry garden planting

Full-sun gravel garden

This planting scheme was developed for a full-sun garden where the brief called for a resilient, low-maintenance dry garden composition.

All species were selected for their ability to thrive in hot, exposed conditions with minimal irrigation. Drought-tolerant planting reduces long-term water use and reflects a responsible ecological response to increasingly warm and unpredictable summers.

Plants are set within a gravel mulch, which enhances drainage, suppresses weeds and reinforces the garden’s naturalistic character. Natural sandstone boulders provide informal seating and anchor the composition, introducing warmth and structure while complementing the dry planting palette.

The result is a robust, climate-conscious garden that balances texture, form and sustainability — demonstrating how thoughtful planting design can create beauty with minimal resource input.
