Back garden, Brockley

The brief for this predominantly shaded rear garden was to create a comfortable, welcoming space that felt like an extension of the house — somewhere to relax, unwind and entertain friends.

The design draws on materials and forms that link seamlessly with the existing patio, ensuring the garden feels like a single, cohesive space. A corten steel screen provides a strong visual focal point while subtly dividing the garden, guiding movement and creating a sense of discovery as you move towards a secluded seating area at the rear. A generous sleeper-built raised bed defines the space and doubles as informal seating, making it ideal for larger gatherings and social occasions.

A lush planting scheme complements the existing foliage while introducing greater variety in form and texture, helping to enclose the garden and enhance its calm, intimate atmosphere.
