This South East London garden was designed as a flexible family space — somewhere adults can relax and entertain while children can play and explore safely.

The layout divides the garden into a sequence of connected outdoor ‘rooms’. A generous dining terrace, framed by built-in bench seating beneath a pergola, forms the social heart of the space. From here, sightlines extend across the garden, maintaining visual connection between zones.

A soft-bark play area incorporates stepping stones, a bug hotel and a raised vegetable planter, encouraging imaginative play and interaction with nature. Towards the rear, a more secluded fire pit area provides a sheltered setting for evening gatherings.

Planting wraps around the garden in a warm, colourful palette suited to its south-facing aspect. Layered borders soften the structure, creating an immersive environment that feels cohesive. The result is a balanced urban garden that supports family life — practical, welcoming and rich in seasonal interest.
